Breakfast from the bakery counter, a boxed lunch from the seasonal window behind the family-style restaurant, and a bench in the park is the classic Yountville budget day and costs very little.
The culinary garden is free to walk through and is genuinely worth twenty minutes.
Bistro lunch at the bar — one course and a glass — gets you into the group's cooking properly for a fraction of a tasting menu. Afternoon service is the quietest and easiest to walk into.
The family-style dinner is a fixed four courses for the table and works out well per head for a full meal.
Yountville is compact and walkable end to end, so a car is only needed for wineries. Staying in town removes both parking and driving-after-wine problems.
Weekday visits are cheaper across accommodation and easier across every restaurant in the village.
