    What a gift card can and cannot do

    A gift card is stored value against a bill. At the bistro, the family-style restaurant and the bakery, that is all you need — the card covers the meal at the end of the evening.

    At the ticketed tasting-menu restaurants the meal is paid for at the moment of booking, so a card is most useful against beverages, supplements and anything added at the table.

    • Not a reservation — the table must still be secured at release

    Better ways to gift a tasting menu

    Buy the ticket. Securing the reservation yourself and handing over a confirmed date is a far better gift than credit that still requires the recipient to win a midnight release.

    Terms to check before buying

    Confirm which restaurants honour the card, whether it can be applied at online checkout, whether any expiry or dormancy terms apply, and how a lost card is replaced.
